Almost half of the Rotax field was made up by Div 2 drivers with close and exciting battles
in all races. Daniel set the fastest time for Div 2 at 1:21:5421 during Practice/Qualifying.
Racing started with a relatively clean and open first race, with the field spread out but close lap times
with Daniel coming home in 1st place for Div 2.
Race 2 saw a major incident on lap 2 with a packed field all trying to negotiate turn 5
resulting in Daniel being shunted from behind and turned sideways, then having his nosecone clipped by one of
the karts and an unfortunate driver sliding sideways into Daniel’s stranded kart and upturning itself.
Daniel helped put the other kart back on its wheels and once sorted, both continued racing although by now
well behind the whole field.
Daniel’s team with help from fellow racers, worked hard to repair his kart to have it
ready for the next race. There was more exiting racing in race 3, with Daniel driving well and putting
in good numbers including a personal best lap time of 1:20:3401 to mix it with the Div 1 blokes to come
home 4th overall and 1st in Div 2.
Lap 2, Turn 2, was the scene of more drama during Race 4 with a hard charging and sideways
Div 1 racer and several other karts trying to share the same space. Unfortunately, in trying to avoid a
collision Daniel had to put his kart sideways and consequently hit the tyre wall going backwards.
The contact with the wall spun him around and pointing in the right direction, he was able to continue
the race and drove well to pick up 6 positions and come home 4th in Div 2.
Race 5 was going to be the decider for the overall placings as there had been a good mix
of drivers on the podium spots throughout the previous races. After more good racing, Daniel came home first
with several Div 2 drivers hot on his heels. This assured him the win for the day. All in all, a good days racing by all the Div 2 guys.
