| RACE REPORT - EASTERN CREEK 12/13 July 2008.
Daniel provided himself and the team with great results with a 6th placing in
race 4, personal bests and 10th outright for the round putting himself in a good positiong for the 2nd round
to be held at Mallala on 1/2 November. There was a large number of entries with quality racing all weekend.
The team's strategy for the weekend was for Daniel to finish in the top ten for the round to give him the best
opportunity for Round 2 at our home track (Mallala). Daniel's recent success at Mallala including new personal
bests provides him with the home track advantage which he needs to fully exploit.
There weren't many competitors out for the first practice session but it was important to have Daniel
out there to gain track time and to tune the kart to the track. Daniel was third fastest after the session.
Practice 2 saw a few more competitors. We completed some tweaks to the kart and Daniel ended the session
with a new personal best of 1:34.6826 for EC, and, on top of the card. Practice 3 and only 6 karts ventured out.
Daniel didn't finish the session having turned his kart around after 1 lap and parking it in the kitty litter.
Qualifying 1 saw 40 Superkarts on the track! This was going to test patience but all went well. Daniel
drove in a tidy manner, finished in position 13 with another personal best at 1:33.7491. Our tyre choice had been
limited and although setting a new personal best, Daniel wasn't happy with the handling. The machine was
suffering massive understeer but our usual tyres had not been available prior to this meeting. This led to
Daniel not even completing 1 lap in the 2nd qualifyer before again spinning it off the track.
The understeer problem again caused problems in Race 1 with Daniel, although starting well lost position on
each lap until a spin on the final lap cost him 4 places to finish 21st. For race 2 the team had managed to source
another set of tyres and this was a good decision as Daniel came home in 16th spot with yet another personal best
at 1:33.5522. Race 3 and Daniel rewarded the team with another great result coming home in 12th and recording
another personal best at 1:33.4371. The last race of the day saw Daniel's best effort yet coming home in
6th place securing 10th outright for the round and our objective met.
